Terms of use

Civus is free to use. These are the few things to know before you rely on it.

Last updated 6 November 2026.

What Civus is

Civus is a free reference to Philadelphia’s public records. It is offered as is, with no warranty of any kind, and may change or be unavailable at times.

Check the original record

Records on Civus come from official sources, and every record links to its source. Copies, transcripts and extracted fields can contain mistakes or be out of date, so check the original before you rely on it.

Answers on the Ask page are generated from cited passages and can be wrong. Read the passages they cite.

Fair use

You’re welcome to read, search, link to and quote Civus. Please don’t:

  • scrape or crawl it in a way that slows the site for others;
  • go around its rate limits, human checks or sign-in;
  • try to reach pages or data that aren’t public.

The public API under /api/v1 and the feeds under /feeds are the way to use Civus from a program. Requests that harm the service can be blocked.

Accounts

When accounts are available, you can close yours at any time from your account page. Civus can close an account that is used to break these terms.

Privacy

What Civus collects and how to have it deleted is on the privacy page.
